Requirements for Submission of Grant Requests:

  • Requests for funding will only be accepted through submission of a grant application.
  • Application Deadline: Requests must be submitted by April 1 or October 1 for consideration.
  • Applicants must be blind or visually impaired and a resident of Kentucky or must be an organization that serves those who are blind or visually impaired in Kentucky.
  • Applicants who need assistance completing grant forms or require a specific format may contact our office at (502) 897-3990.
  • Incomplete applications and/or applications without supporting documents will be returned.

Braille Writer Loan Program

Requirements for Submission of Braille Writer Requests:

  • Applicants must be blind or visually impaired and a resident of Kentucky.
  • Requests for braille writers must be submitted by application and include the following supporting documents:
    - A current eye exam or verification of legally blind status
    - A letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or other professional (if in school)
    - A letter from your rehabilitation counselor (if you are an Office for the Blind client)

Will Evans Scholarship

The Will Evans Scholarship is for blind or visually impaired students pursuing post-secondary education (college) or vocational training. The scholarship award of up to $2,000 is to be used toward expenses associated with obtaining a degree or training certification. Students may reapply each fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) for up to five years.

Requirements for Submission of Will Evans Scholarship Application:

  • Application Deadline: Applications are due no later than July 1 of each year.
  • To be eligible for consideration, the applicant must meet the Kentucky Office for the Blind criteria
    for educational or vocational services.

  • Applicant must be blind or visually impaired and a current resident of Kentucky.
  • Letters of recommendation are required from school personnel or from the applicant's Kentucky Office for the Blind counselor.
  • School transcripts must be provided with the application.
